dor

as a result of the babuji influence, i finally relented, and joined mumbai watching the bollywood fest on tv. but i told him i only wanna watch a good no-nonsense hindustani movie, y'know?, the one that doesn't have the actors frolicking in looooove in the rain tumbling down grassy hills in seven different costumes in the mere span of a song.
so mumbai picked out the movie 'Dor' for me. speaking as somebody who has a biased dislike towards allthings hindustani, i will confess to you that this Dor movie is astonishingly very very good! the storyline is smooth, the cinematography is just breathtaking beautiful, and the acting is truly first class. it really has the hollywood-esque sweeping epic-romance feel to it, and definitely worth watching.
at heart of the movie is the story of a friendship, wovened into it the issue of modern-day feminism. but what caught my attention was the gorgeousness of the young actress named ayesha takia who plays the grieving widow from the ultra-conservative muslim rajastani region, and throughout the movie she's dressed up fully in hijab and purdah so i'll let you know i wasn't smittened because she was scantily clad. but, her eyes!, oh her eyes! everytime she's on screen i found myself fascinated by the depth and breadth of her eyes, the light curl of the her brow, and the longingness of her sad gaze. she acts principally from her eyes, if you watch closely, and did a very fascinating job at that.
and she can be funny too. wait for the scene in the movie theater. it's hilarious!
all in all, i really do recommend the movie 'Dor.' it is, again, truly worth watching. go find it in the videostore near you!
